The joys of  property ownership can be greatly exaggerated. The vicissitudes of the world can strike and interrupt all the best plans and hopes. A small stumble followed by a distraction can lead to things slipping through the safety net. A short illness or family emergency may escalate or accumulate to wipe away ability or desire to maintain. Once-loved edifices may fall along a long scale of desertion, with store or home degrading to useful shed, to pilfered abandonment, to physical collapse. All are places still holding the spirits and hopes of people now moved on or wanting to.
