Bad Ju-Ju Landmark 1 - George Wallace Shot

On May 15, 1972, a man craving notoriety, shot George Wallace at a shopping center rally in Laurel, Maryland. The man had given up on killing Richard Nixon because security was tighter on the president. Wallace, left paraplegic by the assassination attempt, was his second choice as an attention getter. Wallace was running for president on a racist appeal for segregation. It is said that the Giant Food sign is the last remaining feature of the old center. The shooting itself is said to have taken place at what is now now the Bank of America drive-through.
