Logging Train Equipment

Some of the first trains in eastern North Carolina were narrow gauge rail bringing timber out of the woods to mills in riverfront towns. Many rails ran through swamps where passage was difficult. These internal combustion-driven units are by the Roanoke River in the vicinity of Jamesville NC.  I took these photos in February 1995.
