Loading an Auto-Rack Train

Lots of new cars, SUVs, and small trucks travel by train from the factory to delivery trucks. The large, closed rail cars carry carry vehicles stacked two high. There’s a large transfer site in Jessup, Maryland. I took these photos in December 2019.

An SUV descends the mobile ramp from the top level of the rail car.

The mobile ramp is backed away from the rail car. Note the driver with his back to the camera.

The ramp is maneuvered to the next rail car.

Drivers ascend to remove cars to yard. They will be shuttled back by van.
