Herzog Departing Marsden

Norfolk Southern ran a Herzog train from New Bern to Chocowinity on June 21 dropping 15 miles of ballast along the NB Line. By the time they got in the yard and turned around, E52 was coming back from the mine in Aurora, and E49 was ready to clear the Neuse River Trestle in New Bern. The Herzog train was held in the new yard, while E52 was brought straight into a pass track in the old yard. Herzog pulled forward to the south wye and put their conductor at the main line switch awaiting E49. E49 headed under the Highway 33 overpass and pulled straight through on the main - far enough to clear the wye. E49 then dropped their track authority. The Herzog immediately got track authority, the conductor threw the switch, boarded his train, and they were off almost before the E49 had stopped rolling. You see in this video the Herzog departure. The red hopper in the background is the trailing car of E49.
