Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit - Illinois Terminal

Norfolk Southern’s black and white “color” scheme can get pretty samey. But, they occasionally roll big and splurge for special paint jobs. One of those occasions is the salute they did some years ago for all the railroads which were absorbed into Norfolk Southern over the years. The Illinois Terminal commemorative visited Chocowinity May 11-12. ITC operated from Peoria to St Louis and Danville. It began operation as an interurban electric in 1896, and through a series of mergers and sales was eventually rolled into Norfolk & Western in 1982. From there, it became part of Norfolk Southern. 1072 is a 2012 EMD SD70ACe.
