Trains - Week 11

Highways and side roads traveled during 2019’s 11th week brought some interesting rail sights. I got a few shots of the train station in Vandemere, built about 1908, at the end of the Washington and Vandemere Railroad. That rail line had its own trestle between the current Pamlico River bridges for Highway 17. It ran along the current electric right of way and crossed the Norfolk Southern track with a diamond about where the Highway 17 Bypass bridge crosses the track. The junction was known as Porter (I believe). You can also see some of the rail action in both Selma and Chocowinity in this set. Week 11 was March 10-16.
