First Responders Heritage Unit 911

What a great Groundhog’s Day—one of Norfolk Southern’s most striking Heritage Units. This 1985 SD60 was rebuilt into an SD60E. It’s already one of my favorite locomotives visually, but this one got a fabulous special paint job with its 2015 rebuild. Its paint salutes our first responders and ups the ante by reassigning it the locomotive fleet number 911. It performed a Sunday added attraction on February 3 leading E52 to the phosphate mine in Aurora.
