Heritage Units - Lehigh  Valley & Operation Lifesaver

Norfolk Southern’s black and white “color” scheme can get pretty samey. But, they occasionally roll big and splurge for special paint jobs. One of those occasions is the salute they did some years ago for all the railroads which were absorbed into Norfolk Southern over the years. The Lehigh Valley commemorative is a 2012 GE ES44AC (#8104). Another special scheme is one used on a number of locomotives saluting railroad crossing safety program Operation Lifesaver. This one is a 1998 GE D9-44CW (#9252) with the Operation Lifesaver 25th anniversary logo. They arrived in tandem January 1 on E49 and left the following day.
